Strengthening Industry - Academia Collaboration for Education, JAPFA and UNHAS Inaugurate a Teaching Farm in Makassar

16 December 2025

Makassar, 16 December 2025 – PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JAPFA), in collaboration with Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), today officially inaugurated a Closed House Teaching Farm facility located in Pattallassang District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. This educational and research facility is the result of a strategic partnership between JAPFA and UNHAS, with a total investment of IDR 3 billion. Built on a 1,500 m² site with a capacity of more than 20,000 chickens, the facility is designed as a center for practical learning in modern livestock farming.

This collaboration originated from the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JAPFA and UNHAS in mid-2024, as part of a synergy between industry and academia to create a more efficient and sustainable livestock farming ecosystem.

Rachmat Indrajaya, Director of JAPFA, stated, “This teaching farm is part of our efforts to develop modern livestock technologies based on research and education. We hope this facility will have a positive impact on improving the quality of education in Indonesia, particularly for UNHAS students, enabling them to become globally competitive future leaders.”

The teaching farm facility is designed to support students’ practical learning, covering livestock management, biosecurity implementation, animal health, and livestock business management. The application of a closed house system enables optimal environmental control through automated ventilation and temperature regulation, thereby improving feed efficiency, reducing livestock mortality rates, and minimizing production waste.

The Rector of UNHAS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., emphasized that this collaboration marks an important milestone in strengthening the role of higher education institutions and the private sector in preparing high-quality human resources. “This initiative not only supports the Tridharma of Higher Education, but also represents a shared commitment to producing graduates who are ready to face the challenges of the future livestock industry, while delivering tangible benefits to society,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Syahdar Baba, S.Pt., M.Si., added, “This facility will serve as a platform for research and hands-on learning, enriching a curriculum that is practice-oriented and based on applied research. Students will gain direct experience in operating the latest closed house technologies, enabling them to comprehensively and practically understand the concept of sustainable livestock farming.”

Through this collaboration, JAPFA and UNHAS hope to foster the emergence of a new generation of livestock farmers and professionals who are competent, technologically adaptive, and highly competitive, in order to support food security and the development of the national livestock sector.
