JAPFA Together with DLH in North Sumatra Province Clean Lake Toba

Simalungun, 30 June 2020 –PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JAPFA) through its subsidiary PT Suri Tani Pemuka (STP) is conducting activities to clean Lake Toba with the North Sumatra Provincial Environment Office (DLH). The activity titled "Clean Up Lake Toba" was carried out in the Tigaras and Salbe areas to support the environmental preservation program, as well as the restoration of Lake Toba water quality which is the company's concrete action from implementing the 3P principle (People, Planet, Profit).

As part of the commemoration of World Environment Day on 5 June, "Clean Up Lake Toba" was conducted to clean up trash and solid waste around the lake's surface. Not only cooperating with DLH of North Sumatra Province, but the entire surrounding community was involved in the clean-up of Lake Toba.

"Cleanliness of Lake Toba is our shared responsibility; the government, the community and companies. Therefore, we must actively work together to make a real contribution to the cleanliness and sustainability of Lake Toba," said Binsar Situmorang, Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Environment Office.

Activities take place while adhering to health protocols in order to break the chain of COVID-19 distribution. JAPFA also provided 100 masks which were distributed to all participants. This was appreciated by Binsar to JAPFA, not only for JAPFA's initiative in this activity, but also for the company's contribution amid the current conditions.

Imam Santoso, Deputy Head of Tilapia Operation Simalungun stated, "This activity is not the first time JAPFA has contributed to environmental preservation, but since 2017 JAPFA has routinely participated in providing positive impacts on the environment and surrounding communities".

Other activities carried out by JAPFA in supporting environmental sustainability include initiating the Action Movement for the Environment program since 2017 in cooperation with the KALPATARU Scouting Unit (SAKA), training in processing liquid organic fertilizer from residual production waste, reforestation in the Lake Toba Catchment Area (DTA) of 20 Ha through planting 11,000 trees, installing Clean Water Filters, and implementing JAPFA for Kids Go Green activities targeting primary school-age children.

"In addition to these various social initiatives, in carrying out its business JAPFA also always preserves the environment by implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly fish farming patterns," concluded Imam.
