Handover of Petengoran Ecotourism Area: Commitment and Synergy to Create a Sustainable Environment

Lampung, 9th April 2021 - PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JAPFA) manifesting the commitment in carrying out the 3P pillars (people, planet, profit), by initiate the development of the Petengoran Ecotourism Area located in Pesawaran, Lampung. Initiated for the first time in 2017 through planting mangroves in Gebang Village, now JAPFA has succeeded in developing the potential of the area to become an environmentally friendly tourism area. Today in a virtual event, JAPFA officially handed over the area to the local government through Village Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) Gebang, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung to be further managed.

Artsanti Alif, Head of Social Investment JAPFA stated, "The conservation efforts of this mangrove area are a manifestation of the company's commitment to protecting the environment so that it remains beautiful and sustainable. Therefore, through this program, it is hoped that the Petengoran Ecotourism Area can become a conservation area as well as an educational tour that brings benefits to the surrounding community. "

The development of the Petengoran Ecotourism Area was carried out from 2017 to 2020, and JAPFA has successfully manage 4,500m² mangrove area by planting ± 12,000 mangrove trees and seeding 35,000 mangrove seedlings. In this area, JAPFA has also built a 400 meters long track, built supporting infrastructure such as shelters, public toilets and culinary corners.

"In realizing corporate social investment activities, we will always collaborate and synergize with the government, both central and regional and other stakeholders. Including in developing this area, JAPFA collaborates with the management of Village Owned Enterprises Gebang and the district government, and of course embraces the local community to jointly develop this area of great potential," explained Artsanti.

As a conservation area, JAPFA also develops aquaculture and restocking of marine life. JAPFA also facilitated training in cultivating and making demonstration plot cages for mud crabs and green clams. Increasing the cultivation of mud crab as a native species in the mangrove ecosystem is carried out to maintain the balance of nature.

Moreover, JAPFA also facilitates training for Village Owned Enterprises institutions for area management. Hoped this area is growing rapidly and can function optimally to maintain the sustainability, harmony and balance the ecosystem which includes environmental, social and cultural elements that can be utilized by the people of Pesawaran Regency and its surroundings .

"We hope that with the current management system, the Petengoran Ecotourism Area can be useful as an open space that can accommodate a variety of individual and community activities, both as a tourism or educational area that can have an economic impact on the surrounding residents," Artsanti concluded.
