15th JAPFA Chess Festival: Promoting Achievement and Enhancing Indonesia’s Chess Reputation on the Global Stage

Jakarta, 5 October 2025 – PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JAPFA), in collaboration with the Indonesian Chess Federation (PB Percasi), once again held the JAPFA Chess Festival for the 15th time. Taking place at the Senayan Multipurpose Hall, Indonesia’s largest chess tournament officially opened today and will run until 9 October.

This year, the JAPFA Chess Festival features a series of matches across various categories, with total prizes exceeding IDR 300 million. A highlight of the event is the International Duel Match, which pits Indonesia’s top chess players against strong opponents from the Philippines and Kazakhstan, competing for a total prize of USD 6,000.

In the men’s category, Grandmaster (GM) Susanto Megaranto (Indonesia) will face GM Daniel Quizon (Philippines). Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Women International Master (WIM) Shafira Devi Harvesa (Indonesia) will duel with WIM Amina Kairbekova (Kazakhstan). These matches serve as a platform to showcase the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian chess players on the international stage.

In addition to the Duel Match, the festival also hosts a national standard chess tournament with a total prize pool of IDR 209,150,000. This tournament is open to various age groups and categories, including Senior Men and Women, Veterans, Boys and Girls Under-10, Under-14, and Under-18, Corporate Team, as well as the Best JAPFA category specifically for JAPFA employees. To further enliven the competition, a Blitz Chess Competition with total prizes of IDR 9,250,000 is also held.

Rachmat Indrajaya, Director of Corporate Affairs at JAPFA, stated, “Since its inception in 2003, the JAPFA Chess Festival has served as a platform for nurturing Indonesia’s talented chess players. Holding this tournament annually demonstrates JAPFA’s commitment to supporting the development of chess as a sport while providing opportunities for young athletes to grow and compete at higher levels.”

Beyond competition, the JAPFA Chess Festival is designed to educate and promote chess to a wider audience. Activities such as Fun Chess Game and Street Chess Challenge were held at Jakarta’s Car Free Day, introducing chess in a more relaxed and inclusive manner to the public.

In his remarks, Utut Adianto, Chairman of PB Percasi, expressed his hopes and appreciation for the event: “The JAPFA Chess Festival is more than just a tournament; it is a vital platform for training and developing Indonesian chess athletes. We deeply appreciate JAPFA’s consistent support for this sport. We hope this event continues to produce professional talents capable of competing on the international stage.”
