06 February 2025

Jakarta, 6 Februari 2025 - To enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of animal health, a delegation from the Iraqi government and veterinary health companies visited the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday (6/2). The meeting, initiated by PT Vaksindo Satwa Nusantara (Vaksindo)—a subsidiary of JAPFA—was held at the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health Services, Ministry of Agriculture, and focused on fostering collaboration between the two countries to advance animal health and control zoonotic diseases.

The event was attended by Dr. drh. Agung Suganda, M.Si (Doctor, Veterinary Medicine; Master of Science), Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, drh. Imron Suandy, MVPH (Veterinarian; Master of Veterinary Public Health), Director of Animal Health, and Dr. Teguh Yodiantara Prajitno, Head of Animal Health and Livestock Equipment at JAPFA, along with the Vaksindo team. The Iraqi delegation included Dr. Raaed Nassir Farhan and Dr. Najm Abed Hasan from the Central Lab; Khulood Jabbar Chyad, Wasan Mhawi Godan, Muntadher Mohammed Kareem, and Muneer Saleem Khalaf from the Veterinary Center; as well as Dr. Harith Salim Ibrahim, Yazen Harith Salim, and Hasan Muwafaq Ali from Techvet Company, Erbil, Iraq.

One of the key topics discussed was Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), as Iraq is currently in need of reliable vaccine solutions. In Indonesia, Vaksindo has played a vital role in managing and containing the resurgence of FMD outbreaks in 2023 by developing and distributing effective vaccines.

“We have successfully exported various veterinary vaccines and medicines to over 20 countries,” stated Teguh Prajitno “Iraq is poised to become a strategic partner in our efforts to enhance animal health. Today’s discussions laid the groundwork for a concrete collaboration plan, including a site visit to Vaksindo’s facilities.”

As a follow-up to the meeting, both parties agreed to develop a detailed action plan to address animal health challenges in Iraq. It is hoped that this collaboration will not only strengthen the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Iraq in the field of livestock and animal health, but also yield meaningful benefits for both nations.
