Preventing Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Santori Vaccinates 2,000 Head of Cattle and Goats in Central Lampung

21 January 2025

Lampung, 21 Januari 2025 - PT Santosa Agrindo (Santori), a subsidiary of PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (Japfa), in collaboration with local authorities, has launched a vaccination program to prevent the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) among livestock in Anak Tuha District, Central Lampung Regency. Approximately 2,000 community-owned cattle and goats will receive FMD vaccines produced and supplied by PT Vaksindo Satwa Nusantara (Vaksindo), another Japfa subsidiary specializing in veterinary equipment and animal pharmaceuticals.

Tri Wibowo, Head of the Food Security, Food Crops, Horticulture, and Plantation Agency of East Lampung Regency, stated, “This mass vaccination initiative by Santori is a positive step in preventing FMD, which can significantly affect the economic stability of local farmers in Central Lampung. We hope this collaboration continues and serves as a model for similar efforts in other regions.”

This vaccination program is part of the company’s commitment to animal welfare, particularly in the prevention and mitigation of FMD outbreaks, with the broader goal of strengthening food security in the Lampung region. A total of 1,243 cattle and 689 goats owned by residents across 10 hamlets in Anak Tuha District will be vaccinated under this program, carried out in collaboration with the Central Lampung Regency’s Department of Plantation, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries and the Lampung Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry & Animal Health.

Dayan A.P. Adiningrat, President Director of PT Santori, emphasized the urgency of swift action in preventing FMD outbreaks. “The recent resurgence of FMD in several cities across Indonesia demonstrates how rapidly the virus can spread among livestock. This vaccination program is a critical measure to curb the spread in nearby areas and a key part of our biosecurity procedures to protect the buffer zone surrounding PT Santosa Agrindo’s farms,” he explained.

This initiative aims not only to safeguard animal health but also to enhance livestock productivity and improve the welfare of farming communities. Protecting livestock from infectious diseases helps stabilize farm output, contributing to local economic resilience and food security. In addition to FMD prevention, Santori previously responded swiftly to the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in 2023 by conducting mass vaccinations for livestock around its operational areas.

“As a company committed to sustainability and animal welfare, Santori consistently supports the livestock sector through various initiatives, including this vaccination program. We believe that livestock health is essential to improving farmer livelihoods and ensuring the sustainability of Indonesia’s livestock industry,” Dayan concluded.
